MAUSTON, WI – November 4, 2020. Voters in the School District of Mauston approved the District’s referendum question on the November 3, 2020 ballot by 56%. The question asked voters to approve an investment of $54.8 million for district-wide capital maintenance, new construction, and educational improvements, focusing specifically on:
- Replace West Side Elementary with a new elementary school on the main campus that also includes Mauston Montessori
- Improve site safety, traffic flow, and site drainage at the main campus
- Priority capital maintenance at Lyndon Station Elementary
- Addition, remodeling, and capital maintenance at Grayside Elementary School
- Priority capital maintenance and updates at Olson Middle School
- Addition to expand technical education, agriculture, art, fabrication lab, and greenhouse; renovation/expansion of iLEAD Charter classrooms; secure entry upgrade; and capital maintenance at Mauston High School

Community Solution
The successful referendum was the result of a dedicated facilities planning effort by the School Board and District administration, utilizing a comprehensive facilities assessment, a district-wide community survey, and numerous staff and community engagement opportunities over the past year.

Next Steps
The District will work with their construction manager Miron Construction and architect Plunkett Raysich Architects to move forward with project planning. Design work will begin this month, and the projects will be competitively bid in two phases, beginning in late spring of 2021. Construction work will begin in the summer of 2021 with anticipated project completion at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.
